Oklahoma School Counselor Certification Renewal

To successfully renew your Standard Certificate in School Counseling in Oklahoma, it’s essential to adhere to specific steps. These steps include fulfilling background check criteria, submitting required documentation, and remitting the processing fee. By following these procedures, you can ensure the successful renewal of your certification (see Certification Renewal Overview).

Renewal Period:

  • The Standard Certificate in School Counseling is renewed every five (5) years.

Professional Development or Examination Requirements:

  • As of February 2020, there are no specific professional development or examination requirements for renewal.

Renewal Application:

  • Sign in to your Department of Education profile on the Oklahoma Education Single Sign-On portal.
  • Complete a renewal application.
  • Alternatively, you can submit a completed Application for Renewal of Oklahoma Standard Certificate by mail to the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Processing Fee:

  • A $50 processing fee is required for renewal. You can pay this fee online or by including a check, cashier’s check, or money order made payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education with your mailed application.

Background Check:

  • House Bill 3398 is in effect, requiring any teacher (including School Counselors) without a background check on file with OSDE to obtain one before renewing their certificate.
  • If your most recent certificate has been expired for over a year, you will need to complete a new background check.

Submission:

  • If applying online, follow the instructions on the Oklahoma Education Single Sign-On portal.
  • If applying by mail, send all required documents, including the application and processing fee to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, 2500 North Lincoln Boulevard, #212, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105-4599.
